Summary: financial management
This is an example composition of the dynamic summary. Each account picks its own columns. Here the chart is Financial progress: what the hours are worth to bill and what they cost internally.
The question is “did this client leave margin, or only volume?”. Total Hours stay on the table so the volume does not disappear. The rest is money: cost, billable value, and margin.
Menu Reports > Customizable summary.
💡 Cost and billable amount depend on the plan and on permission. Without a cost per hour on the person’s record, the cost column comes out zero. That setup is in set labor cost per hour. The billing rate is in billable hours and hourly rate.
The chart
With Show charts on, choose the Financial progress tab. The chart reads billable amount, costs, and margin for anyone allowed to see billing.

The example columns
Under Columns, for this slice:
- Total Hours — sum of durations in the group, next to the money.
- Total Cost — internal cost of the hours in the group.
- Billable Cost — the part of that cost that sits on hours marked billable.
- Billable Value — what those hours are worth to bill.
- Margin — revenue minus cost, for anyone who sees profit.
- Margin % — the same relationship as a percentage.
Cost and billable value answer whether the group covers its cost. Margin closes the account. What is already marked invoiced lives in the invoiced management example. The hours-only slice, with percentages, lives in hours management.
The example grouping
Groupings: Client, and below that Project. The chart and the table use the same period from the left-hand filter.
Click an amount to open the time entries behind that number, as in the detailed report.
When to use this slice
Use it when leadership asks about the month’s profitability, not only how many hours went out.
Do not use it to mark what was already invoiced. Invoiced status is another tab and another set of columns.
